I had Kaspersky installed which I completely uninstalled (of course before uninstalling that I installed Microsoft Security Essential and scanned my system which reported no issues and was still running when I was experiencing same problem installing SP1 as first descibed above. Although I haven't figured out which driver(s) wascausing the conflict.....
